Questions to ask an Auto Transport Company
Shipping Companies

When you are considering and interviewing auto transport companies, it is important that you ask them the right questions. The right questions will provide you with the information that you need to make a good decision concerning auto transport companies. Some good questions to ask include whether or not offer door-to-door shipment, if they guarantee arrivals, shipment updates and whether or not the company carries maximum insurance. Here are several other good questions to pose car shipping companies.

Does Your Company Provide Door to Door Delivery: Make sure to ask any company that you are considering hiring to deliver your vehicle if they provide door-to-door delivery. This information will be important to know. It will effect how you make your plans. Some companies will pick up your vehicle from your home and deliver it directly to your destination, others will not. Find out.

Does Your Company Provide Delivery Updates: Being able to receive updates on the status of your vehicle and where it is in the delivery process is a big deal. It will help provide you with some idea or where your car is and when you might receive it.

Does your company offer guaranteed arrival times: Some vehicle transportation companies will guarantee an arrival time for an additional fees. Other companies will offer you a guarantee for no extra costs. Still, others will not offer any type of guarantee but will instead give you a delivery range.

Does your company carry maximum insurance: The Department of Transportation requires that auto transport companies have maximum insurance. Make sure that the company that you are considering has maximum coverage.

How long will my delivery take: It is important to know in advance how long your vehicle transport will take. Depending on the distance and the company you choose to work with, you may have to wait anywhere between 7 days and 2 weeks.

How far in advance do I need to make my reservation: The further in advance that you make your reservation the likelihood increases that you will get the date that you want. Some companies will require a 2 week notice.

Does your company use a terminal service: Some companies will not offer door-to-door delivery, but will instead pick up and drop off your vehicle at a terminal.

What forms of payment does your company accept: Find out if you can pay in cash (not recommended since you have no record of the transaction), check or credit card.

What types of trucks are used to deliver vehicles: Some auto transportation companies will use an 8-10 car hauler. These are the same types of trucks that car dealerships used to have their cars transported. Are you a broker or an actual shipper: Brokers will charge you a fee to "hook you up" with actual car haulers. In these instances, you will not likely be able to contact the real shipper if you have a problem. If you want to use a broker be sure to get the contact information of the company that will be shipping your vehicle.

Teenage Drivers Going Extinct?
Shipping Services

Think back to your first job. For me, it was right after I turned 16. I didn't want a job, but I needed a job in order to make the money I so desperately needed for my brand new, used electric blue car! I couldn't wait to hit the open road, and show all the people in town my sweet ride, whilst still adhering to the 9pm rule, of course. Well, that was then, and this is now. We are now in a time where my 14-year old niece is dying to get a job so t hat she can start saving up for a car. But why does she need to do that now? Could it possibly have something to do with the fact that according to one study, it's been predicted that by the time she hits driving age at 16 the gas price may be well over $5 a gallon? Maybe. Or maybe it's just ht excitement of being able to drive when she hits 16, that is, if our economy hasn't eliminated the teenage driver all together by then. There have been rumors circulating the water coolers that in the coming years, the legal driving age will be increased to 18, thus robbing younger teens of their thrill altogether. Although I can see the positives and the negatives of this overzealous move, with the state of the economy continuing its downward spiral, age soon won't even be a factor. It's sad really, because there's truly no better feeling than the excitement of being able to drive for the first time. So kids, don't rush to obtain your license, because it may take a small, personal loan for you to fill your tank en route to the DMV.

Shipping is physical process of transporting goods and cargo. Virtually every product ever made, bought, or sold has been affected by shipping. Despite the many variables in shipped products and locations, there are only three basic types of shipments: land, air, and sea.

Land or "ground" shipping can be either by train or by truck. Trucking is easily the most popular form of shipping. Even in Air and Sea shipments, ground transportation is still required to take the product from its origin to the airport or seaport and then to its destination. Ground transportation is typically more affordable than air shipments, but more expensive than shipping by sea. Trucks are also much faster than ships and rail but slower than planes.

Many trucks will take freight directly from the shipper to its destination in what is known as a door to door shipment. Vans and trucks of all sizes make deliveries to sea ports and air ports where freight is moved in bulk also.

Much shipping is done aboard actual ships. An individual nation's fleet and the people that crew it are referred to its "merchant navy" or "merchant marine". Merchant shipping is essential to the world economy, carrying the bulk of international trade. The ships are also extremely expensive constructions themselves, being some of the largest man-made vehicles ever. The term originates with the shipping trade of wind power ships, and has come to refer to the delivery of cargo and parcels of any size above the common mail of letters and postcards.
